Market Street Shoes December 15th, 2009

Greetings and Holiday wishes,

Market Street Shoes is making some big changes.

We have decided to move Market Street Athlete... into Market Street Shoes! Really. No, really. We are bringing the best running and trail product across the street, across Market Street, across that great four-lane divide, and will house it all under one roof at Market Street Shoes. Hooray!

We were given the chance to expand our stock room and seized the opportunity to do so, allowing us to showcase all of our product at one location, which we have previously been unable to do. What does that mean? It means that we will be closing our Market Street Athlete location, but the benefit for us and for you, our customer, is great. What it means no more running back and forth across the street looking for this shoe or that. And it means no more sending you back and forth across the street looking for this shoe or that.

Of course it also means that we can't bring everything over, but we will bring over the things that are most important to you. Our running section, for both men and women, is very strong and has a very loyal following (thank you for the support!), so it will be coming over in its entirety. The best trail running and light-hiking shoes will be coming over as well. And certainly, a selection of our running socks and accessories will make the journey across the great divide, too.

What's not going to make the cut? Well... what doesn't make the cut is going to go on sale, big sale, 30% to 60% off sale! Yeah! Starting immediately, as in Wednesday, December 16th, tomorrow, the day after today, the day of the really big sale at Market Street Athlete. That means things like shoes, socks, gloves, base-layer, and outerwear from all of your favorite brands at 30% to 60% off, just in time for the holidays, whoo hoo! We'll run this sale 'til our shoes fall off, or we run out of things to sell, whichever comes first.

In the end, it is a big change, we recognize that, but we feel strongly that it is a great change. We've had Market Street Athlete for two years and have spent a great deal of that time telling folks that if we had had the room, we would've just expanded our offerings at Market Street Shoes. So, here is our chance to do just that, and we're excited, and we hope that you'll be excited as well.

To good health and with warm holiday wishes,

Market Street Shoes

Olympian coming to 'Athlete

Three-time Olympian and gold medalist in rowing (and aspiring chef), Bryan Volpenhein, is coming to Market Street Athlete this Staurday, December 5th, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Bryan will be hear to talk about training, endurance, and going the distance. He would also like to have an informal Q&A session, so bring your questions. And to keep things exciting, Bryan is going to bring his "erg" to demonstrate proper rowing technique and form.

Carmel Zahran, one of our sales associates, staff rower, and Olympic hopeful, is going to bring her erg as well, and it sounds like she's planning to host erg races, with prizes going to the fastest times. Here's your shot at competing with Olympians! We'll have footage of Bryan competing in medal winning races, and his medals will be on display. So, bring the family and come on down to 'Athlete on Saturday night, it will be a great opportunity to meet and talk with an Olympian. Light fare and beverages will be served.

Core Concepts In Store Now!

We are proud to add Core Concepts to the mix at Market Street Athlete. Core Concepts is built around layering principles for an active, outdoor lifestyle, using high quality fabrics while paying lots of attention to details in the fabrication, such as flat seams, thumb holes, hidden pockets, and fleece lined cuffs.

With all of this performance, Core Concepts didn't neglect style in their approach to function. They clearly have targeted our active urban lifestyle and know we go from Market to trail and maybe to the pub on the way home, and want our apparel to be able handle the transition with ease. Take at look at pictures after the jump, or better yet, come on in and try them on for yourself.

"Zig or zag -- it's your choice. Our new Axis
baselayer is the perfect first layer to provide all
day comfort with a style that can handle
wherever life takes you."

"Our new Plush Pullover combines unique styling
with an ultra-soft, high loft inner fleece to keep
things toasty when the mercury drops."

"The Cadence Hoodie has you covered for
whatever is next on the agenda -- whether
that's a double-black or double-tall."

"Let us introduce our Switchback Series. This
jacket offers everything you need for complete,
lightweight weather protection and packs up tight
for on-the-move versatility. At home in
springtime downpours, early season snow storms
and trips to the weekend farmer's market, we've
got your back... literally."

...and stowed away in its convenient and
functional satchel.

"Fashion and function unite to offer this
all-season, performance jacket featuring a stylish
waist-tie."

"The Spellbound Soft Shell has enough guts to get
the job done and enough glam to look good doing
it."

"The perfect 3-season long sleeve baselayer, our
Spin Cycle Crew will ward off the chill on a fall
trail run and keep you dry while earning your
turns in the dead of winter."

"The perfect three-season long sleeve baselayer,
the Old Faithful adds a zip neck and great print
details to our multi-climate, multi-sport baselayer
collection."

"The Cowboy Pow offers everything you need to
cross seasons and climates -- bringing lightweight
insulation, breathability and versatility. Our best
selling classic has been updated with new full size
hand pockets and reconfigured venting for even
better performance."

"Style and function collide to create this technical
gem. The sleek, trim cut and plaid inner lining
ensure you're always looking good."

Canada Gooses Freestyle Vest

Almost worth their weight in gold, the Canada Goose Freestyle Vest is a quintessential piece of Northwest outerwear. A down vest layered over a hooded sweatshirt is a classic Seattle combination, and a Canada Goose vest is a good as it gets. Available in their signature red, and black.

We're hosting a runner's get together Monday to talk about running, do some some running, and establish some group runs that work for people in our community.

Ryan, the Run Ambassador with Pearl Izumi, is going to be in attendance and will have their demo shoe program with him. This will be a great opportunity to try Pearl Izumi for the first time. When we get back to the store we'll have have hydration fluids from our friends at Clif Bar and Deschutes Brewery and some healthy post-run snacks.

Smartwool Concept Space

Smartwool recently came and built out a section of Market Street Athlete as a way to support us in our effort to expand our product offerings from them.  It is an exciting way for us to bring some brand awareness to our customers and to be able to tell more of Smartwool's story of comfort, performance, and sustainability. We will be adding in more lifestyle pieces to the performance selection as we go through spring and summer, and then again, as we head into fall.  Their cut and sew pieces fit fantastically, are machine washable--just like their socks--and do all the great things that we love about Smartwool, like wick moisture, and help regulate body temperature.  So, stop by and check it out, and feel free to call with any questions.

Asics is in the house!

We've been waiting.  You've been waiting.  Everybody in Ballard has been waiting.  Waiting for Asics, that is.  Well, they finally arrived a couple of days ago, YEA!  We brought in everyone's favorite models: the Gel-Kayano, Gel-Nimbus, Gel-Cumulus, and the GT-2140.  Whatever your foot type and bio-mechanics are, your stability and cushioning needs are covered with these four superstars.

We've already started calling all the Will Calls that we've been sitting on (thank you for your patience),  so come on in and take your favorite Asics model for a ride, and get your New Year started off on the right foot; or left if you prefer.
